Pointless?

I got sick pretty fast of hearing about the 2012 Olympics. As I'd spent 6 full years thinking and writing about the whole point of the mega-event and critiquing its organisation and motive.

However, when it comes to the latest, money-wasting fiasco, the Paralympics, I am truly out to sea.

I have no idea - whether you take the context of the ROOTS of the event, or its EVOLUTION in modern sense of the event - what the point of this event is.

I do believe in empowerment of the disabled. I'm not sure how the Olympics achieves this.

The whole thing seems like "sorcery" (Baudrillard)

I don't understand this event. Apart from the spin, it makes no sense.

Any thoughts?

I was listening to a radio talk show that discusses what sporting events do to the body. Apparently as the fans get pumped up the fight or flight mechanism in the brain is triggered releasing a rush of testosterone and cortisone, it occurs in both men and women. So when a fan watches their team or athlete play the effects of watching are similar to the actual sporting event participants.

Yeah, like maybe I should just stop moaning about such events altogether and get on board with the viewing. No wonder I'm a miserable, old twat. Though I do get a big kick out of watching my step sons playing Wii
