These vile individuals are afraid, that's why they parade themselves in such unseemly ways to the rest of the wannabes in their artificially constructed circle of influence. They spend their whole day shovelling shit badly & looking forward to lunchtime, whilst their lack lustre minions potter about on their behalf.
I don't have any "betters". I'm living proof of that. I've never begged for anything and if you cross me, you better not pass me outside of your barricades.
An academic I know got into a scrape some years ago because he took the drastic step of employing teaching & learning strategies that were designed to overturn the ridiculous status quo that had been allowed to emerge by the neglect of the peabrained management of the private college where he worked.
The story is not familiar enough, because such outlaws are rare.
The basic scheme is : rapport /respect - > cultural revolution - > reflective practice - > honest personal critique - > self modification where required.
The actual student body concerned passes through simultaneous stages of "oh nice, this's different, he's good" - > "WTF is happening now!?" - > "how my doing/what my doing/where my going/what do I have do, what do I need to be?" Etc - > what do I need to do to become the person I want to be?
Of course, as a gonzo educator I'm not going to just let you loose with some little samples of my knowledge. To understand what I'm talking about u'd have to come to a lecture & see 4 urself.
One thing's for sure : people don't understand the GONZOLECTURE. Why should they? It's like a patient trying to grasp all the specialist medical training undergone by the Doctor advising them about a health problem. They can't grasp it. They can't understand it properly. They certainly won't be qualified to practice it, probably ever.
The truth is, patients don't need to understand medicine to receive it's benefits. It's not actually conducive to their treatment. They just need to take the medicine prescribed by the specialist & recover.
Certainly, there's no way career teachers get this either - as pathetic products of the UK PGCE teacher training culture enforced on institutions by the government in its quest for effective social engineering, these poor dullards can't fit something as artistic as the GONZOLECTURE into their tiny minds, let alone their silly prepackaged lesson plans.
Then we have the administration which in some universities is made up of career academics who are well practised teachers & published researchers. I've experienced lots of benefits from working for managers who understand education, by whom I was effectively mentored and from whom I learned my craft. I took what they gave me & adapted it to real people in the real world.
However, according to some reports we've received here at GONZOTOWERS, there's apparently an emerging breed of mass-factory higher education manager.
This new layer of structure seems to be made up of people whose brains are quite small, they have little or no experience of being an academic or a professional educator & have experienced little formal education of their own.
I've yet to encounter this weird species of middle manager, but according to a recent book manuscript I read:
"Their repertoire seems to consist of reasonably indefensible, meeting-based party tricks & playing the power game to satisfy their swollen, undernourished egos.
They surround themselves with their own handpicked entourage, made up of people similar to themselves, as weak & stupid as they are. They have lunch & hang out in offices together, arranging golf games, whilst having their rockets polished. The sick atmosphere of nepotism pervades the corridors of such twisted money trenches as they consolidate their little empires of yes people who pretend they're in the presence of a real leader & a true inspiration to work with.
Who wants to work for such people? Anybody with an ounce of personal self-worth & any sort of personal investment in the education if their fellows would never dignify such a corrosive environment with their efforts."
- excerpt from an upcoming, unpublished manuscript titled "The Bromide Pig : my part in his roast."
Of this is really the case, I won't be ruled either morally or legally by such buffoonery.
