The musings of a lost heart

All he could think
was she'd found
someone else, &
the same kind'v
monogamy that'd
brought her to him,
had also lost her
to another.

He's finally found the missing link to the story he's always had in his heart, but never had the edge to write. It began with the question:

How he'd never realised
that one bad day, one day,
had actually been the last day,
The end of days & the end of life
as he'd known it.

Those who promise
that they'll always be
there, are well meaning,
yet also foolhardy,
promising something they
have no power to deliver.

Never trust the soul
that professes to always
accept & love you as you are.
It cannot, and inevitably,
one day, will prove it.

Fragility of a natural heart matched only by its boastfulness, as it exhorts its
own capacity to love, bear & tolerate what it simply cannot

A broken spirit yearns
to believe the refuge
promised in words which
supply hope, yet remain
bereft of any efficacy to
deliver their promise

"I'll always love you"
is as impossible a promise
to keep as a marriage vow.
