This loathsome work of fiction is a dream of sorts...

What you doing?

Seeing my former producer jetting back to the UK to preside over family things caused me to think about my own family & call my lovely mum who's been through her own set of troubles, lately.

We've the inimitable Christmas time of year coming up and yesterday I had the whole, accompanying season of commercialism inflicted on me in a small shop in Bluewater Kent which seems to be dedicated to kiddies stationary, or something.

The staff seemed nice enough, the merchandise crappy & plastic, but not as artificial as the awful "Santa's coming to town" blaring from crackling speakers at us while we shopped. #princess thought it was great, of course, but then again, she's 5.

I always remember the @the_robertevans tweet which reminded me that if he was still making movies, then they wouldn't be for him.

I've felt increasingly that the world has given up on me & my age group, and is merely interested in the young. I've been preparing for death but I'm still in my forties, so keep assuming I've still a few years left.

It seems the festivities will be continuing without me again - kind'v how I like it. Last year, in an attempt to educate my daughter in the British way'v things, I spent 12 hours cooking only to have the rabble from kimono's side if the "family" descend like a swarm of rabid, vulture-locust hybrids around my expertly-prepared, triple - roast-meat feast with all the traditions of my culture.

I realised you can't enforce such complex etiquette on anybody from such wild & uncultivated wilderness, so simply tried to enjoy the poise of the banquet alone, whilst enduring screaming, screeching and even one miscreant neice who decided to arrive, uninvited for an impromptu present-opening session, mid main course.

These, the families I don't want, do have their good points, but God in His wisdom, never envisaged we'd ever elope with another man's wife & children, yet still expect all to conform specifically to His perfect design.

Along the way, somewhere, I became one of the clichés, prudish people who've never lived criticise over their perfect dinners. I'm just not sure when.

I'm also unsure what I'll be doing this festive season.

What're you up to ?
