This thought came to me recently as I was watching The Green Lantern (2011) movie.
As a person who bought the very first issue of 2000AD when he was a boy and later threw it away, I've never had a complete grasp of comic-books, or their heroes. Thus I was fairly interested in David "Close the Wardrobe Door" Carradine's delivery of the huge "difference between Batman and Superman" discussion in Kill Bill. It was quite novel for latter-day Tarantino, though I still don't think I deserved to sit through about 5 hours of crap before I got to hear it.
Anyway, it is the practice of marketers to maintain a second-tier of goodness to reinforce their main. For example, business-class airtravel isn't quite 1st-class, but it's a darn sight better experience than thrombosis.
So it is for The Green Lantern (T.G.L?)
It's also a little odd that its star - whatever his name is - (he's better looking than I am) has his own cologne endorsement - whatever it is.
Who's your favourite superhero? Why?

Hahaha, you said thrombosis! Love it. To answer your question his name is Ryan Reynolds. Oh, the other questions about who my favorite super hero is? Hmmmn. Don't really give a crap about any of 'em. But if I had to pick, my son has a new Batman video game. The dude is drawn really buff, so I'll go with that.
Always enjoy your posts Charles. Well, that's a bit of a lie. Don't really get your British politics ones, but other than that. You rawk!
I still don't have a favorite superhero, but my appreciation of the Marvel and DC Comic Universe has grown considerably over the years. The finale of a hero unit I used to teach started with Arthurian Lore and ended with students researching a comic book character. They explained archetypes present, the quest, and all other kinds of hero crap, and they loved it!
The characters and plots do offer a lot of commentary on society and people certainly do love to flock to see those men in tights!
