Elvis

I noticed this morning some publicity on the national news channel breakfast show hosted by Susanna Reid, that there's an Elvis auction going on in Stockport, England.

Considering the folklore surrounding the King, it's always newsworthy to consider the foibles of such a rags to riches, emperor of all he surveyed.

We've previously discussed his favourite sandwich and his death - obviously connected in some way. I've alluded to the important matter of whether or not you're a Beatles or an Elvis person - because you can't be both in equal measure.

Now, the curiosity extends to the auction in this Manchester suburb of two key pieces of Elvis's legacy - his King James Bible complete with annotations and his underpants, framed - complete with skid-marks.

It's a little odd, considering Elvis's other achievements that his dirty underpants might catch so much attention by the media in the name of the public interest.

Now, Susanna Reid's panties, I'd buy those for a dollar.

Whose panties, briefs or Y-fronts would you shell out real money for?

The Green Lantern & the Bible

The Green Lantern is a "B-List" superhero. This is because his function in life is to make Batman and Superman look good.

This thought came to me recently as I was watching The Green Lantern (2011) movie.

As a person who bought the very first issue of 2000AD when he was a boy and later threw it away, I've never had a complete grasp of comic-books, or their heroes. Thus I was fairly interested in David "Close the Wardrobe Door" Carradine's delivery of the huge "difference between Batman and Superman" discussion in Kill Bill. It was quite novel for latter-day Tarantino, though I still don't think I deserved to sit through about 5 hours of crap before I got to hear it.

Anyway, it is the practice of marketers to maintain a second-tier of goodness to reinforce their main. For example, business-class airtravel isn't quite 1st-class, but it's a darn sight better experience than thrombosis.

So it is for The Green Lantern (T.G.L?)

It's also a little odd that its star - whatever his name is - (he's better looking than I am) has his own cologne endorsement - whatever it is.

Who's your favourite superhero? Why?
