The results were the calculated destruction of the UK's manufacturing interests, for which I imagine foreign "tigers" such as China would be extremely grateful for if they gave a shit, in between wiping the floor with its "developed", western competitors. It must be weird for Cameron and his rich, privileged career politician cronies to see Britain being thrashed by the performance of planned, semi-command economies, such as China.
The point is, it's really now supposed to work that way. Government is there to stick the boot in to ensure the non-conformist elements of "society" are brought into line, destroyed or have their potency annulled.
It's the latter method that's the most successful. Keep trade unions, but make them work within a system that renders them powerless. Give the common person a vote, but make it pointless to cast it. Have free and democratic elections, but when there's no winner, just choose one. There are many examples. It's like having student feedback and university departments not really acting on any of it.
Are you deciding your future?

It's the tribal sheep called the electorate that are the real problem. They are the ones that sustain this crap system because like lemmings they can't think outside the box. We've been bellyaching and whinging about these things since Cromwell kicked their arses out by force. We can't do that but we can vote for something different and it doesn't have to be extremistin nature.
I think you're right as far as the electorate not taking an active interest in "their" democratic system - the voting statistics alone confirm that. However, many political models point to the unconsciousness of the mass population, resulting in a self-imposed disenfranchisement. This is not just a leftist assertion.
